Teaching ourselves to see around corners
In his blog post today, "Are you wow blind?." Seth Godin (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/ ) observed that, “by definition, just about every great idea resonates early with those that have better radar than those that don't.” The trick, Godin said, is to have learned enough through exposure and trial and error that you come to recognize a great idea before the competition does.
I love that thought: looking and listening, contact, experimentation and even failure contribute to developing an ability to spot the essence of a great idea faster than the next guy. It’s one reason our company has made recent investments in the area of brand strategy and media staffing. The next hot trend, the next new media… spotting it requires minds and eyes that are wide open, every day.
Congratulations to Denise Hollingsworth, promoted to brand strategy director and Melissa Anderson, just named media director. Denise has been with HMH 11 years and tirelessly develops big ideas for some big brands. Melissa came to us last year from Starcom Worldwide in LA with a strong background in traditional and online media and is a constant source of insight from the ever-changing media world.
Welcome, too, to media pros Jenn Hausman, our new associate media director in our Charlotte office, and Melissa Fricke, digital specialist in Portland. Jenn has a strong background in traditional and new media campaigns, and Melissa specializes in SEM, SEO and online media campaigns.
They’re all helping fine-tune our radar for seeing what’s possible—ahead of the curve.
